The Dark Knight Rises 13 minute Preview

Featured in the Sydney Morning Herald today, was a long trailer with insider info from Chris Nolan about the last installment of Batman, the Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises.  There has been a lot of speculation about how great the movie is, and that concerns me because I don't want to be disappointed.  Recently a group of journalists got to preview the movie and they said afterwards that it was the best movie of the YEAR.  In the year that The Avengers came out, that's gotta be some awesome movie.

Yu Minh Is Ainm Dom

I saw this short film on my friend Mataoka's World of Warcraft Blog, and I wanted to keep it somewhere so I could watch it again and show people.

I think it's very well made!  It's poignant, well shot, and very professional.  And I really love that line about "Did you know old Paddy could speak Chinese??" LOL

SciFiEye Test

LOL I thought this was cool!  It's a geek eye test - some letters from famous titles as well as the typical visual acuity test - so two tests for 1!  How well do you know your geek stuff?

I found it while playing with Stumbleupon.  Seem to get a few referrals from there...

Craft at work - Theatre scrub hat made for Registrar E

I wanted to make a hat as a gift from my Registrar (who is a crafty little thing and knits tea cosies and makes quilts and sews) and the only thing I could make was a theatre hat.

I have a lot of great material that I have picked up from Ebay and it wasn't hard to find one that suited her.  So I brought my material and thread and needles to work, pinched some scissors from the secretary, and then realised I forgot to bring elastic!  However, I remembered the oxygen masks have elastic to hold them onto the face so I took some elastic from an oxygen mask - woot I was set!

Fortunately I had a registrar with me all day so I was able to sit in the corner and sew.  People thought I was crazy hand sewing a hat, but I managed to get it done by about 1530 and even embroidered her name on the back to seal in the last seam.  Now how to take pictures of it...  aha!  We used a glove like a balloon!

OK, so the balloon thing looks scary.  But the hat does look cool!

Avengers LEGO

OMG, I must have this!  I saw them on a blog of someone who commented on my World of Warcraft Blog.  Check out their pics with the Lego minifigs and the actors in the background!

Look and the little Tesseract!!!  If you go to youtube, you can see a whole heap of people making movies with their minifigs.  OMG, this has got to be one of the most AWESOME play sets ever :)

There is also one X-Men Lego too with Wolverine and Magneto in it - I do like that as well (go check it out on the website) but this post is about Avengers Lego!

Transit of Venus 6 June 2012

The last time you can see a transit of Venus in our lifetime! With the weather so sketchy I thought that I would have to rely on NASA's livestream. I was feeling optimistic when I got in my car and could see a bit of sky and the beaming round moon. I had my camera packed and I was hoping that by the time I got to work, I could duck down to radiology and grab some dud films so I can look at the sun through them. Fortunately there were people there I knew so I could get some black film.

Next: where should I camp? I found a nice spot next to huge floor to ceiling windows. But wouldn't you know it, rain clouds moved in and blocked the sun! So I had to sit and wait for half an hour for a break in the clouds and managed to snap some decent shots! So here are some of my better shots:

Night toilet training blues

I thought that Julian was almost ready for night toilet training. He was waking up at night when he needed to go, or so I suspected. So I thought ok I can try waking him up at night to empty his bladder and put him back to bed.

But in these colder months, putting him on the toilet makes him cry, the seat is cold! However he doesn't mind the bucket so I kept his little chamber pot in his room. In the first 4 days I had only one accident and I thought it was a good sign but he got a cold, started waking up, crying and straining which made him have accidents every day after.

I tried to sleep in there to catch them but all that made me do was get exhausted and lose sleep. So I have decided to just leave him in his nappies. He will be ready when he is ready.
